Chuo Kendo Dojo was founded in 1936 to cultivate and expand kendo and the Japanese culture. Our Dojo based and built its philosophy from the traditional Japanese dojo structure. Through extensive training, we seek to progress the spiritual, mental as well as the physical characters of the students. 
 


Chuo Kendo Dojo is a member of the International Kendo Federation, All United States Kendo Federation, and Southern California Kendo Federation.

About the instructors of Chuo Kendo Dojo:

Masashi Shikai Sensei (7 dan) is the head instructor of Chuo Kendo Dojo Since 1974. He started Kendo at 1964 at the age of 15. Shikai Sensei has been a long time representative of the United States at the World Kendo Championships. In 1967 at the Goodwill Game of Kendo (pre Word Championship) Masashi Shikai took Silver medal in the individual tournament. He was the member of Team USA for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th World Kendo Championships and was team captain at the 6th World Kendo Championships held in Paris, France. In 1988 Shikai Sensei was head coach of the United States Team at the 7th World Championship held in Seoul, Korea.

Attila Nemeti (3 Dan) is the instructor for the Chuo Kendo Dojo. Mr. Nemeti began studying kendo in 1999 and has been involved in international competitions such as the Olympics, World and European Championships since 1976. Graduating from an accredited university of Physical Education. Mr. Nemeti traveled internationally to develop and enhance his kendo studies, including Kokushikan University in Tokyo, the top kendo institution in Japan.

In the13th World Kendo Championship in Taiwan held in 2006, Shikai Sensei and Mr. Nemeti teamed up as manager and trainer of Team U.S.A. During this Championship and for the first time in history of kendo, Team U.S.A. defeated the Japanese National Kendo Team. The Japanese National Kendo Team had previously been undefeated and had held the champion title for the first 12 World Kendo Championships.
